Is it really any surprise that the Washington labeling battle lost? Or Prop 37 proposal fell to the same fate in pretty much the same fashion. It’s not just the big bad chemical companies that are to blame for this recent demise folks, the dollars you have been spending every day can carry some of the fault as well. Here’s how:
“Members of the Grocery Manufacturers of America, which was forced to create a political committee to comply with state law, have contributed more than $11 million to No on 522, the campaign opposed to the labeling initiative” (shocking, no?). To break it down even further:
Pepsico ($2.4 million)
Coca-Cola ($1.5 million)
Nestle ($1.5 million)
That’s according to a review of state records. These are the same three companies that also made large contributions to defeat the California labeling initiative last year. That was of course after the big processed food companies joined with the biotech firms and helping to raise $46 million for the opposition.
Still there are others:
General Mills ($869,000)
You can add to the list the Campbell’s Soup Company, Kellogg’s Company, Land O’Lakes, Ocean Spray Cranberries, Cargill, Dean Foods and The Hershey Company as well. Yes, every time you spend your hard earned dollars on their products, you contribute to their ability to continue spending large fortunes to make sure labelling doesn’t happen. The thing is, you don’t need labels! I cringed as I watched the amount that either side was spending on labels that people don’t really read right now. And what people do read, they can’t understand. No longer are ingredients simply water, flour, sugar, eggs, etc. If you have to look up ingredients on your smartphone, or online at home to know what you’re eating, it’s not real food and shouldn’t be eaten. The processed food industry is getting richer and richer off making consumers sicker and more overweight. The lies that the government spews out showing reductions in this or that, simply isn’t true. The next time you’re out and about take a good look around you. What do you see? Do you see healthy and energized people, or are most of the adults and children you see in dire need of healthier food and a nutrition intervention? I think you’ll find that things aren’t as healthy and wonderful as what some people try to convince you of. Over 85% of all processed food has at least one or more GE (GMO) ingredients in them! That means that unless verified otherwise, grocery store shelves lined from ceiling to floor with GMOs. Most of the food we eat today isnt real food at all. It concerns me that we are so focused on labels, for food that shouldn’t be consumed in the first place. And by continuing to waste time and money on fighting to label garbage food, we’re continuing to allow the same food to be purchased and generating additional demand. Knowing that just about every single processed food product has one or more GMOs in it, how does it slip the minds of so many that purchasing products that contain GMOs, supports the growth of GE crops!!!
Complaining about such defeats just seems so ridiculous. What should we be doing then? The bottom line is this…real food doesn’t have an extended shelf life. Real food doesn’t have a dozen ingredients in it that you have to look up in order to know what you are eating. We’re so wrapped up in labelling food that needs to be taken off the shelves and replaced with real and whole foods, that we aren’t taking time out to realize that we’re fighting to label the very same foods contributing to the chronic diseases and illnesses, food allergies and weight issues we have today. The answer isnt easy or simple, because it makes us have to take responsibility for our own health and wellness, and for that of our family. The only way we are going to solve this problem is by getting out and getting growing. And with air pollution and the nasty chemicals being sprayed on us, learning how to creatively grow indoors is even better. Until we start growing our own food, going out into our communities and starting community gardens/greenhouses and take the reliance from buying and consuming these fake foods, the cycle will continue and this will be an ongoing battle. I look at the amount of money raised to try and pass the label initiatives and then I look back at how that same money could have been spent on school lunches programs and getting them away from the clutches of Monsanto, or on nutrition programs that are designed to to not only teach people what they should be eating and how to cook without using GMOs or toxic chemicals and additives. Think about it. Labelling continues the GMO cycle. It allows the nutritional oppression that has plagued us for far too long, to remain a burden to our health and wellness, as well as to our pocketbooks as we stay prisoners to the OTC medications and prescription we rely on to get through each day. It just seems like we are wasting so much time and money to label products we need to have gone, when we should be working on the root of the problem.
We here at the Food Revolution support self-reliance, self-sufficiency, and personal responsibility. The time of blaming and crying over spilled milk is over. it’s time to grab those containers if you live in an area that is now in winter mode, educate yourself on aquaponics and hydroponics, relearn how to cook and eat healthier, and get growing. Until we take back the reigns on this stage coach, we will remain conforming GMO supporters. There are so many amazing new grassroots groups and organizations that are popping up all across the world that are willing and able to help you make the change. It’s time to get our bodies back on real and chemical free foods and beverages so that they can begin to detox and function as they should. If you start today, replacing even just one meal a week with a healthy and processed free foods, you are already starting the process. Together we can take back our food supply! Together we can learn how to help and take care of each other! Together we can make a difference. We can do it together!

Food Companies and Monsanto Spend Millions to Defeat Washington GMO Labeling Initiative. http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/19698-revealed-big-processed-food-companies-spend-millions-to-defeat-washington-gmo-labeling-initiative
Over the last several weeks, we have been busy organizing and fine tuning all of our ideas, projects, and resources (though this will be an ongoing process), to make sure that we can pass it all on to you in a way that will provide you with the most success and help you to do the most good. Many of you have been waiting to find out how you can help, how you can start a food revolution in your community/area, and what you can do to help fight back against the Biomafia companies and food industries that are spending millions if not billions to keep you addicted to their toxic and deadly foods, sick with chronic diseases and illnesses, and worse than that..starving out our fellow brothers and sisters who are forced to remain prisoners of rapidly deteriorating low-income communities. Healthy and nurturing food should not be a luxury..it should not be only for those who can afford to pay the higher cost of organic foods..Healthy and chemical free foods should be a necessity for everyone, and access to those safe and nutrient rich chemical free foods should exist in each and every community, in every community, in every state, and in every country. For the most part, consumers across the globe have been unknowingly ingesting harmful chemicals and toxins because our governments have care more about profit and higher crop yields than human safety..because they refuse to ban cease and desist their continued attack on our health and wellness..we here at the Food Revolution have decided it is time for us to do our part to right the unjust, harmful, and dangerous wrongs that have been done in this world..and while we may not have the savings accounts of millions and billions of dollars in them, what we do have is the social media, skills, knowledge, and the ability to help lead others into doing the same thing..And here, my fellow revolutionaries, is how you can do just that!!! In no specific order:
1.) Build up support and awareness locally by starting your own Food Revolution page for your specific city (or your equivalent!) It is the foundation for people in your area to go to, to find the latest information, news, resources, events, etc. This makes it easier for you to collect the contact information for those who wish to help you in this battle, and stay in touch. Building your army of supporters this way helps you to do more good, spread out jobs and projects, and not carry the burden all on your own! As if helping to feed others, healthy and chemical foods is a burden 🙂 Please make sure that once you create your own page you share your pages link on our page so we can build our united Food Revolution empire
2.) Download our logo (if you need it let us know) and personalize it with your Facebook pages address and any contact information that you want to have on the flyer. This will be a valuable to pass out to people when you are out and about or at organized protests and marches! You can use the logo on websites, blogs, t-shirts, buttons etc..
3.) Research local resources..your local community is the best source of resources for you to use. See if you can get local neighbors, stores, home improvement centers, etc.. to donate tools, time, volunteers, and other supplies that you will need to start and keep your free food gardens growing!
4.) Depending on what city, state, and country you live in, this is where things get tricky. It seems that no matter if your working to do good in your community or not, laws are laws and rules and codes are rules and codes. Check to see what (if any) your local area has in the way of setting up community gardens, converting lawns to free food gardens, etc. By following the rules and making sure that you are not in violation of any of them, is the difference between healthy and chemical free food to share for free with those who need it, and all your hard work being dug up and taken out.
5.) Know your area! In communities/cities that enjoy year round warmth and sunshine, you can pretty much grow just about anything without too much trouble. Areas that have winters and months of cooler temperatures need to make sure that you select vegetables and fruits that can be grown in your soil and temperatures! Plan to plant-based on your season and area.
6.) Get out and talk about what you/we are doing! Talking to people while your out and about and talking about your page, gardens, needs, our mission will get you more volunteers and maybe even more donations!!
7.) Talk to local schools and see if you can’t bring in some of your fresh produce to donate for their school lunches!! Monsanto spends hundreds of thousands of dollars within the united states on providing them money and items for their lunch programs to feed their students. Maybe with some luck we can help them grow or expand a fresh food garden that they can use instead!
8.) Make sure that when you have decided to start your own local revolution, that you let us know so we can add you to our priv ate member group..It is there where we will discuss important projects, project ideas/videos, coordinate special events together, chat, and get help and extra support!!
9.) While our goal is to have our tools and items all donated, there are many times when that is not possible..permits, park rentals for special events, seed/plant purchases, etc may still have to be paid for..this is why I urge you to start an online fundraiser page (i use Fundraz through facebook…yes you will pay a small fee out of each donation) but you will need to set up a paypal account regardless..if there is another fundraiser or donation site you prefer use it! I make jewelry and recycled accessories, and homemade bath and body products to sell on etsy and in a fb store and put the money I earn directly into my paypal account to cover our expenses 🙂 Please remember to shop around and find the cheapest cost to you possible.
10.) Check our page for gardening tips, tricks, and how to’s..
For now this will get you started and get you motivated…time is not on our side, as our governments continue to take take, and what little funding programs do still have coming in, will not be able to carry the load of new individuals and families who are forced into poverty as new weapons and wars continue to be on the priority list. I can’t tell you how many times I have watch in horror, as people fill buses and trucks with cans of gmo infested food to feed the hungry, which contributes to their failing health and deaths..why feed others what you yourself wont eat..And then of course i hear people telling me that the food banks and shelters often wont allow donated fresh produce or organic canned goods because of liability..ugh!! Maybe it’s time for a new free food bank to come into reality?? It is us against a mighty and powerful force, but if we stand together and do not waiver from our mission to get healthy and safe food into the hands of those who need it, we shall begin to take them down and take back the food supply that has been monopolized for too long. Power to the people, it’s time to grow a Revolution and feed the future!! Healthy and safe food should be free for everyone!!
Greetings! Happy Thursday my fellow revolutionaries!! It is so amazing to watch the number of subscribers for our blog, and the number of “likes” for our Facebook page increasing day after day. Getting our messages to as many people as we can is hwo we will be able to create the much needed changes that we have come together to create. But as great as all of that is, and as important as all of that is in helping to reach eyes and ears across the globe, there is still so much work that needs to be done. Over the past few days and week, we have been working tirelessly to introduce to you some serious problems that need to be addressed. You see my fellow revolutionaries, in addition to governments that continue to put the needs and safety of its people below profit and big business, we also are battling a handful of Bio. companies which we have simply nicknamed the Biomafia’s, who have for far too long been allowed to poison our soils through GE crops, our bodies through gmo filled foods and beverages, and our waters, as their chemicals and un-natural alterations of our food supply sink into the water we bathe in and drink. And this is not confined to the United States, no my fellow revolutionaries, this is being approved and allow in many countries across the globe. And thus far, they have been given the freedom to do so by those individuals who are directly responsible for ensuring our health, safety, and total wellness stay protected. They have failed us. Vote after vote, and lack of long-term health studies to prove the safety of such products, have not mattered as much to government organizations (such as the FDA, EPA, and USDA) as profit and higher crop yields. We must feed the masses save starving countries, that is the message they sing in so many words on their public pages, and to the press. I say nonsense!! Over the years, several GE crops have been shown to cause serious health problems in the animals they were using to test (of course that’s before the Biomafia companies sweeps in to run damage control, and harshly discredits any researcher and study that shows the any negative results of their products). Just the other day I told you how Syngenta (a large and powerful GE seed grower!) actually crossed the lines and hired detectives to dig up dirt now only a researcher who showed that Syngenta’s Atrazine made male frogs turn into female, but also on a judge who was overseeing a case against the Biomafia company!! (can you say blackmail!?) Meanwhile our number of chronic diseases continue to increase, as does the number of illnesses, food allergies, and weight problems. SOmething that I promise you, sooner or later, will be linked to the foods we have been eating. And still these companies are not being held responsible, and not being made to allow outside long term human health studies. Instead they are kept safe by our corrupt governments, in the name of the future……
So let’s address the future. In several poor countries, farmers who are racking up enormous debt from growng GE crops, are committing suicide at an alarming rate! Drowning in debt with no relief in sight is just too much from them. What about their future? If Ge crops were designed to save the world and solve the hunger problems across the globe, then we should all be healthy and well fed. But we aren’t. The diseases are increasing in numbers, deaths from poor nutrition and lack of food are increasing, our soils, bodies, and waters are all being poisoned, and people are still hungry!!! Ge crops and gmo foods are nothing less than a BS gimmick to sell their products, rake in high profits, keep people sick and dying so they have to rely on medications and doctors, and worse yet..the food industry continues to create the unhealthy gmo foods and beverages that leave you addicted to them and coming back for more. (Can we say weight control nightmare?!) So a solution they are not. Today the House did not pass the 2013 Farm Bill..normally I should be telling you to celebrate however the House did not agree to pass it because it did not strip away even more money from the government aid programs that ensure that all low-income individuals and low-income families can afford to put food in their bodies, while still paying for the roof they have over their heads, clothes on their backs, and medicine when they are sick. These the basic necessities that every human being should have to ensure they can thrive and function the same as the next person. But that’s not the case. The government’s and wealthy see this class of people as a burden to society, heck on Facebook today numerous comments were made referring to these men, women, and children as “losers,” “lazy.” and “leeches.” Clearly the people who feel this way have never felt real pains from being hungry, have never gone to bed hungry, or tried to go to school hungry. This has been an ongoing problem for far too long, and it’s time for it to stop. No more struggling, no more suffering, no more dying from diseases and illnesses that can be prevented. Since our governments, big businesses, and wealthy won’t do something, then my fellow revolutionaries…..it’s time for us to do our part and Feed the Future!!
The Food Revolution is about providing education, creating and implementing solutions, and helping to bring in the resources and support that low-income communities, and really everyone needs to make healthier food and diet choices, and spend less time being sick, overweight, and on medications. Do you want to bring the Biomafia companies and food industry to its knees? Do you want to help heal, feed, and give people who would much rather help themselves than have to go to anyone else to ask for help? The Food Revolution is your chance. A Revolution Garden is the answer, in addition to nutrition centers to teach proper nutrition, healthier cooking, growing your own food, making safer and healthier cleaners, and becoming more self-sufficient. Many areas have taken one or to of these things and put them in their communities without a problem, but they aren’t enough. Without the proper education and support you leave people to make the sme choices, and same purchases, that not only holds them back from ever truly being free from the government programs, but also continue to put money into the companies and food industry we want to bleed dry. We are the answer, and we can do it, with your help. We need teachers, lawyers, artists, writers, bloggers, web designers, gardeners, we need everyone and anyone who has any skills, as well as dreamers, activists, and anyone who wants to truly make a difference. We will at no point apply for any government funding, so donations and freebies are our only outlet, but together as a United people, we HAVE THE POWER to create and force this change. It is our goal to have a Revolution Garden in every community, in every state, across this and every country. People helping people, working and learning together as one..My Fellow Revolutionaries, dreams are wonderful, but projects that force change and take back the control that we have lost until now is far better. Join us fellow revolutionary brothers and sisters, and helps us to show those that we oppose, that we hold the key and power to a better and healthier tomorrow, and we will succeed in doing what for so many years the food industry and Biomafia companies have not. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!! IT’S TIME FOR A REVOLUTION!!!

Okay so maybe not cheap, since Syngenta (Another one of the lovely Biomafia companies in our country), has crossed the line in order to do damage control. That’s right my lovely fellow revolutionaries, in order to keep the truth about Atrazine from making it to your eyes and ears, they resorted to hiring detectives to dig up the dirt on not only on Tyrone Hayes (a scientist who conducted tests showing that Atrazine causes male frogs to become females), but also the judge who was working on the case against Syngenta (a water-management district in Illinois filed a lawsuit to force Syngenta to pay for the cost of removing atrazine from drinking water). The lawsuit was eventually settled out of court. During discovery, the court forced Syngenta to turn over mounds of document. Here’s a passage: “please don’t redistribute. I don’t think it would be helpful if it were generally known that we research SAP panel members. The real good stuff I have kept to myself. Tim, if you see a bill coming in from some detective agency, you could just sign it and pass it along. It protection from Janis on atrazine,” Basically, Syngenta hired detectives to dig up the dirt on members of the Environmental Protection Agency’s scientific advisory board (SAP). Numerous memos show that Syngenta funneled money to the American Council on Science and Health, to the Hudson Institute (where Alex Avery of the institute’s Center for Global Food Issues attacked Hayes to discredit him and his research), to Steven Milloy, publisher of junkscience.com and to president of Citizens for the Integrity of Science. In return, Syngenta got praising and supportive blog posts and fluffy warm editorials. Syngentas head of communication stated the folloing: “These are great clips for us because they get out some of our messages from someone who comes off sounding like an unbiased expert. Another strength is that the messages do not sound like they came from Syngenta,” Most people don’t even read scientific papers, because we rely on experts and journalists to help us make head and tails of what is being said. But none of this has anything to do with the science surrounding atrazine. In fact, the research that Hayes did, is the very same research that Syngenta conducted themselves. If they had gotten different results do you think they would have published them for all to see?? Of course not!!
But let me back up and explain what the big deal about atrazine is. Atrazine is a synthetic compound, used as an agricultural herbicide. Yes herbicide, meaning it’s sprayed on our food crops. Europe, as with most dangerous things these days, has banned the use of it. Atrazine is a widely used herbicide for control of broadleaf and grassy weeds that interfere with the growth of corn, sorghum, sugar cane and other crops. Atrazine is also used as a weed killer on golf courses as well as a variety of commercial and residential lawns. Atrazine was first registered for use in the United States in 1959. The herbicide has been banned in the European Union since 2004—individual countries in Europe banned Atrazine as early as 1991—but 80 million pounds of the stuff is used each year in the United States. So what’s the big deal? Atrazine may protect crops and lawns from certain types of nasty little weeds, but it is a serious problem for other species. The chemical is a strong endocrine disruptor that causes immunosuppression, hermaphroditism and even complete sex reversal in male frogs (Gasp, you mean Hayes’s research was correct?? Perish the thought!) at concentrations as low as 2.5 parts per billion (ppb)—well below the 3.0 ppb that the EPA says is safe. Amphibian populations across the globe have been declining at an unprecedented rates. Today, nearly one-third of the world’s amphibian species are threatened with extinction. As if that wasn’t bad enough, atrazine has also been linked to reproductive defects in fish and prostate and breast cancer in laboratory rodents (Eek?). Epidemiological studies have also suggest that atrazine is a human carcinogen and leads to other human health issues. So let’s talk about the problems this powdery little substance has on us. Researchers have been finding an increasing number of links between atrazine and poor birth outcomes in humans. In fact, a 2009 study found a significant relationship between prenatal atrazine exposure (primarily from drinking water consumed by pregnant women) and reduced body weight in newborns. Low birth weight is associated with increased risk of illness in infants and conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes (which as you know is not good!). The public’s health in this issue is a growing concern. Atrazine is the most commonly detected pesticide in American groundwater! An extensive U.S. Geological Survey study found atrazine in approximately 75% of our stream water and about 40% percent of groundwater samples in the agricultural areas tested. Even more recent data shows atrazine present in 80% of drinking water samples taken from 153 public water systems. Yes that’s right my fellow revolutionaries, this nasty stuff has been found hanging out in our water system. So not only is our food being poisoned by these big bad Biomafia companies, but they actually have been silently poisoning us through our water as well. So how would you feel if I tell you that after 15 years of completely stopping the use of atrazine, France is still detecting its presence. Persistent must be it’s middle name!! Each year, more than half a million pounds of atrazine gets caught in the airstream during spraying, and falls back to Earth in rain and snow, before eventually making it’s way into our streams and groundwater. In 1006, our ever so dedicated and government agency we call the EPA, re-registered atrazine and deemed it safe. They claim that it posed no health risks for humans at all. The NRDC and other environmental organizations questioned that conclusion, and pointed out that the EPA’s monitoring systems was inadequate and weak, and regulations have allowed atrazine levels in watersheds and drinking water to reach extremely high concentrations, which certainly puts public health in question and possibly even at serious risk. But farmers love this stuff!! Well of course they do. WHy? Well first, it’s relatively cheap. Second, it doesn’t harm crops. Third, it increases yields, and finally it saves them money. And we all know that happy farmers, who make make good money, is always a good thing. Sadly, it’s stil a dangerous chemical, and regardless of whatever the benefits our farmers may see, the economic costs of continuing to use atrazine—both in treatment of our water and public health costs, could be significant when compared to the relatively small economic losses that banning this chemical would cause. WHy must we play with poisons in the name of higher crop yields??
Back to my earlier story. So here we have Mr. Hayes conducting research and publishing his findings that atrazine causes male frogs to become females, and Syngenta jumps to run damage control, much like what Monsanto does when it rushes to pay off journals and researchers to discredit any researcher and study that shows negative effects of any of it’s GE crops or products. So to read news like this, where yet another biomafia company plays dirty and puts the safety and well being of not just our health but that of our families as well, in danger…well it just sickens me. In agriculture, where the largest amount of money for research comes from big corporations that use steel fists to guide public opinion, maybe we need to start paying closer attention to independent reports from researchers like Tyrone Hayes. After all if these big bad companies are willing to drop so low such as hiring detectives, what does that tell us about he research they are trying to discredit? My fellow revolutionaries, that tells us that they are trying to hide the truth yet again from us, and yet again don’t give a rats ass about our health, but are more worried about their profits and public image.
We here at the Food Revolution, salute you Mr Hayes. We hope that you continue your research ad that other researchers follow in your footsteps and put finding the truth about whatever it is that is being researched at the time, not just in the name of science but in the name of all of the people that might just be affected by whatever the results may show. Power to the people, it’s time for a revolution!!!
On the evening before the massive and historic protest against Monsanto, 71 US senators voted against an amendment to the senate version of the 2013 farm bill that would have guaranteed states the right to enact mandatory GMO labeling laws. 71 senators voted against the 90% of consumers who want to exercise their right to know what is in their foods. Included in this 71 senators are 20 liberal Democrats and 43 Republicans (the very same who have fought so hard in the past to defend the rights of states!) Yep, it’s true my friends, these elected officials voted against your state’s constitutional right to protect the health safety and welfare of it’s local businesses and its citizens!!
We here at the Food Revolution feel you have the right to know who stands against health and wellness, and who were elected to represent your best interest and simply are not. We know you deserve the right to know who has no respect for your health and wellness, food safety, or for food sovereignty. In addition to listing the names of these individuals, we thought you’d like to read this:
The Corporate Takeover of Local Decision-Making
Arguing against the Sanders Amendment, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), the chair of the Agriculture Committee, said that the amendment “ . . . would interfere with the FDA’s science-based process to determine what food labeling is necessary for consumers.” Stabenow’s statement shows either her ignorance of, or dismissal of, the existing scientific evidence that GE food has been linked to everything from allergies to kidney failure to cancer.
But Stabenow’s real argument was one of efficiency: “It’s also important to note that around the world now we are seeing genetically modified crops that have the ability to resist crop diseases and improve nutritional content and survive drought conditions in many developing countries. . . We see wonderful work being done by foundations like the Gates Foundation and others, that are using new techniques to be able to feed hungry people.”
Let’s forget for a moment that Stabenow took in $739,926 in campaign contributions from Big Ag in 2012. Or that Bill Gates is a Monsanto shareholder. Or that there’s plenty of evidence refuting the claim that GMO crops can solve world hunger, improve nutrition or survive drought. The focus on efficiency over health and safety, when we’re talking about our food, should be enough to set off alarm bells. Claiming efficiency, whether it’s a valid claim or not, as a reason to trample states’ rights to make their own decisions regarding food and agriculture, should have us thinking “slippery slope.”
In their book, Slow Democracy, Susan Clark and Woden Teachout write: “ What we have now is the McDonald’s of democracy. It isn’t necessarily a rapid process, any more than our processed foods – with slaughterhouses, processing plants, intercontinental transportation routes, and months in the freezer – are actually quick. But it’s fast in the sense that fast food is fast: It’s a centralized process based on the premise of efficiency, delivering a simple, easy-to-use product, but one that leaves citizens unnourished and unsatisfied. Like industrial agriculture, this ‘fast democracy’ has encroached on our communities in a silent and invisible way. And Americans, with a deep stake in the quality of these decisions, know we are losing out.”
Right, remind me exactly who it is that is losing out, when over 90% of the American just want to know what is in their food so they can make better health and diet choices, and so far that percent of people means nothing to the people elected to represent and fight for those same things. Shameful! We tend to agree with those that say the real losers are those of us who have come to the harsh reality that we have been lied to by the government and food industry for too long. That it is us who are the losers when when 71 Senators ignore such a large percent of their constituents. That is us who are the losers when 71 Senators ignore the science that says, at the least, GE food should be adequately tested and labeled and banned. And it is us who are losing out when these same 71 Senators are willing to walk all over the US Constitution that guarantees states’ their right to protect the health and safety of their citizens! Shame on you! And he rest of the world seems to agree with us!
The Food Revolution was created to educate, empower, encourage, inform, and offer support to those who have come to cruel awakening that we are being poisoned through the foods and beverages we have become so reliant on and addicted too. Tired of being guinea pig, as time after time the BioChem companies are allowed to flood our global food supply with GE crops and gmos with first having to have extensive research and testing being done, or without being held responsible for the environmental, wildlife, or human health and safety that is put at risk without extensive testing and research ever being done. Here my fellow Food Revolutionaries, is that list of names:
The 71 Senators Who Voted Against Your Right to Know
We all are now well aware of the recent discovery of GE wheat growing unintended on a farm in Oregon. There are so many questions that come from this recent finding, and the answers we’re given leave even more. So let’s break it down as best we can. Monsanto stopped its development of genetically modified wheat in 2004. This happened as a result of growing concerns from American farmers who strongly felt that it would endanger exports to countries that ban these type products. With me so far? Great! Numerous countries do not accept imports of genetically modified foods. Since their first days of use, there has been an ongoing battle as to whether GE seeds, which were designed to resist insecticides and herbicides, add nutritional benefits, and improve crop yields to increase the global food supply, could also cause serious health conditions and harm the environment. As we told you in a previous post, part of the problem millions like us have with GE seeds and gmo foods, is the lack of outside research that would provide everyone with these answers. If you remember, just a few days ago, we told you why there hasn’t been such research conducted, and why even peer-reviewed journals are now being forced to provide you with articles that Monsanto allows to be published! (Monsanto is notorious for having its thugs run major damage control when you try to discredit the company, and prove that it has been lying to consumers for far too long!) Because of this monopolization and continuous refusal to allow unbiased and non-Monsanto funded research to prove that their claims has been valid, you have the opposition we have today. But back on track! The United States exports about half of its wheat crop to other countries. Since the announcement of the discovery of this genetically modified wheat in Oregon, Japan which is one of the largest export markets for the U.S. wheat growers, suspended numerous wheat imported shipments. South Korea was quick to follow, and said it would increase its inspections of U.S. wheat imports. The European Union has asked its 27 nations, to also conduct additional testing. As Monsanto stocks began to drop, we were still waiting for answers!! Oregon State University researchers get credit for discovering that the mysterious wheat had the genetic modification that Monsanto used in its field testing. *Gasp* But Monsanto hasn’t done wheat testing in many years!! Where did it come from!?!?!!?Monsanto, as it comes under heavy fire from all sides, swears that when the test fields were cleared in Oregon in 2001, the seed samples were sent to a USDA deep-storage facility in Colorado. Deep storage?? Monsanto’s research director, Claire Cajacob, claims that the company does keep some samples on hand, so that they can be able to test. The rest of the seed, however, is destroyed. Wait the seeds are sent to deep storage, they keep some to run tests on, but the rest are destroyed? Confused yet? We are!!! Cajacob states:”We’ve been very careful of how seed is stored and where it’s stored.” So now we really have some questions, because that makes no sense whatsoever! Are they storing the seeds in their deep-storage or did they destroy all of those seeds?
Here’s where it really gets our attention! Cajacob also claims that the company conducted follow-ups with any entity that possessed the seed with the so-called Roundup Ready gene and confirmed that they shipped it to Colorado or destroyed it.” What?!?!?!? So several entities that remain un-named for whatever reason they will come up with soon and tell us, have possession of the seeds that we were just told were sitting in deep-storage, and if we hear her words correctly, destroyed? At least now we know that at some point these seeds were shipped to Colorado. Doing some research, we learned that testing in Oregon ended in 2001, which is just four years before testing ended nationally. Monsanto representatives claim that the average wheat seed only stays viable for one to two years in a harsh climate like Eastern Oregon’s. Mmhmmm. So altering the DNA of seed doesn’t give it new traits or qualities that weren’t necessarily intended? Pfft!! It happens!! So here we have this mysterious growth of Monsanto wheat. This wheat popped up in a rotational field that was supposed to be fallow in 2013. None of this gives us any answers. Til now. Now we get Monsanto’s reaction and statements. On Wednesday, Monsanto made the claim that the Oregon field where the wheat was found last week, was in fact contaminated with Monsanto’s unapproved GM wheat, but that it was an “isolated” incident, and that it was very likely either the result of an accident or “sabotage.” Oh come on!!! Seriously?!?! We’re supposed to believe that while your stories regarding your GE wheat seed are so full of holes and make no sense, that you actually believe someone at some point went out ino a farmers field, planted those seeds, all as a means to disrupt the trade system between Monsanto and other countries?! Sorry Monsanto, we here at the Food Revolution say BS!!!And it seems that we aren’t the only ones. On Thursday, scientists warned that the biotech giant’s denial was full of many holes. Monsanto claims that it has tested 31,200 seed samples in both Oregon and Washington and found no evidence of contamination, and insists that there is no cause for concern in the world market. BUT….researchers this week argue that Monsanto’s tests are misleading and that the genetically modified gene used, which is not yet approved for use in the U.S., will very likely continue to be found in wheat seeds!! Carol Mallory-Smith, Oregon State Universities weed science professor who tested the initial wheat plants and determined they were the unapproved Monsanto seed said “We don’t know where in the whole chain it is.” Unh hu. She then goes on to add the following: “I don’t know how Monsanto can declare anything. We obviously had these plants in the field. You introduce something into the environment, and genes move around in the environment, whether transgenic or not.” Thank you!! Once these seeds are no longer in the safety of a controlled lab, things just can happen. And it does, and clearly it did! David Andow, a professor of entomology at the University of Minnesota, said in an interview with Bloomberg that “these claims are misleading,” and “the tests cited by Monsanto this week, which displayed clean wheat in the state of Washington, are shortsighted.” Monsanto fails to be honest yet again and we are to believe that their claim of safety in regards to GE seeds and gmos are safe for human consumption? Not buying it!! Andow also stated in his interview “Sure they tested it, but that doesn’t mean it’s all clean, it just means it’s not so widespread that it could be detected easily.” Now that makes perfect sense! Doug Gurian-Sherman, senior scientist at the Union of Concerned Scientists in Washington, says “This is not the first time Monsanto has been less than forthcoming on the extent of its seed contamination: “In previous cases, such as during the outbreak of herbicide-resistant weeds in recent years, Monsanto has initially played down the risks. The reality is that nobody knows what happened until extensive testing is done.” Shame on you Monsanto!! But wait there’s more!! Bloomberg reported recently that even if Monsanto’s claims about this specific wheat strain were proven true, they (Monsanto) has resumed trials of other and very similar GM wheat seeds. This of course is according to information which was posted in a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) database. Monsanto planted 150 acres of GM wheat in Hawaii last year and 300 acres of GM wheat in North Dakota this year. This, my fellow Food Revolutionists, means the risk of genetic pollution from unapproved Monsanto wheat is even greater than most people are aware of! Unacceptable!! And we here at the Food Revolution, refuse to allow such important information to be kept from making it to your eyes and ears.
Monsanto, you and the other biotech companies continue to put the health and wellness of consumers beneath profit and higher profit yields. You are the reason we eat, drink, and breathe ways to educate, empower, and inform people across the globe and get them back on track with eating and growing healthier and cleaner foods. Your lies will soon fall on deaf ears, as an informed public is your worst nightmare.
My inbox lately has been full of concerned people wanting to know why there’s so much focus on Monsanto and not on helping people to make better and healthier choices. I’ve asked the same question for quite some time now. Monsanto is just one of the problems we have in the Biochemical GE crop world. And as much as I’d love to sit and argue with those who say if we take down Monsanto the rest will give in, that’s just one senile thought I cannot support. Monsanto is a problem not just to our global food supply, but to our environment, animals and wildlife as well. The photos and stories about species of butterflies on the verge of extinction, and let’s not forget our precious bees! But as we sign those petitions, protest the companies that carry GE products, and take to the streets in peaceful marches against this one monster entity…we end up going home, turning off our electronic devices, and slip back into our lives. If you already grow your own food, shop locally and support organic and local farmers, then you have nothing to worry about. But there are far too many individuals aren’t to that point yet, and are looking for the information, resources, suggestions and ideas on how to get to that point. We’re focusing so much on one piece of the puzzle, that we’re failing to help fix the problem in the first place. I’ve already posted in a previous post, that Monsanto is just one of many Bio headaches that we have to deal with in this world, so I won’t bore you again with that story. My email box, however, has reminded me why I chose to do what I do with my life, and how much work we really have to do if we want to change things. The Food Revolution stands for exactly that…change. So we are going to stay focused on providing our readers, followers, and supporters with the tools, resources, information, and ideas that will help them to make the change in their lives.
The questions that need to be answered is this: How do I get my family eating healthier, we’re so used to the foods we eat now? How can my family make a difference? How can I get my community involved? These are questions that should be our greatest focus, after all, it is consumer buying habits and money that gives the organizations and companies like Monsanto, the fortunes that are used to buy off special interest groups, politicians, etc. Think about, what good are you doing to protest Gmos when you go to the grocery store on payday and buy food and beverages that contain gmos!? The other question I get asked is: what exactly are we left to eat when you take everything else away? So on this dreary Sunday afternoon, I’m going to try and give you some answers to each question. It’s time for a Food Revolution Q & A session!
1.) How do I get my family eating healthier, we’re so used to the foods we eat now? Answer: Every little thing we do to improve our diets, homes, lives, communities, etc makes a huge difference. I always tell people I speak to, to start with little changes. As creatures of habit, we find change difficult. Especially when it comes to food. Food manufacturers intentionally make their processed foods addictive on purpose. They know we’re driven by our taste buds, and those sugary, salty, and fried foods pull us in and wrap us in a blanket of unhealthy comfort. For many, when we try to step away from conventional and over-processed foods, we find ourselves running right back to them. Score!! For the food manufacturers that is. The cost of these foods, the way they are displayed in your stores, and the millions spent on marketing these products to you and your children are all part of the food game. You, of course, are the playing piece. My family found it easiest to change out one meal each week with a healthier version or brand new healthy dish. The best way to make sure that your fruits and vegetables are chemical free, is to grow them yourself. If that’s just not an option, then shopping your local farmers market, buying local produce (talk to your local farmers and ask questions about their growing practices!), and sticking to 100% Certified Organic is the way to go. Adding a bigger percentage of fresh vegetables and fruits to the diet of you and your family, is the most important thing. For low income families, that gets more difficult, and with the number of us falling into that category rapidly growing, sometimes buying the more expensive produce and foods isn’t an option, no matter how hard we try. This is where community gardens are and could be such an asset. For communities that don’t have them yet, maybe now is the time to see if you can rally some troops together and start one!! Another thing to remember is moderation. Even eating too much of a good thing isn’t healthy, something that many of us don’t realize. Increase your water intake, eliminate carbonated and sugary beverages, learn how to read labels properly, and above all get up and move!! Spend time in the fresh air, and laugh even if for no reason other than to laugh 🙂
2.) How can my family make a difference? Answer: All of us on this earth can make an amazing difference, in so many ways! Learn as much you can about gmo’s, start and participate in seed exchanges, learn how to garden if you don’t yet have one, start a community garden, share with your friends and neighbors what you learn and even share extra vegetables. By teaching others what you know your helping more than you know. Write your local, state, and federal representatives and tell them you want safer and cleaner food production practices, subsidies to be given to organic farmers, tighter restrictions on additives and labeling on the food products being marketed, and that you want to know whats in your food! Participate in protests, join online and offline groups and organizations dedicated to supporting organics, and fighting the companies poisoning our food, water, and environments. Every time you plant a seed, buy organic, and share what you learn you are working on making a big difference.
3.) How can I get my community involved? Answer: Get out and talk to people, go to town meetings, special events, pass out flyers and brochures, talk to friends and neighbors. Start up a seed exchange program, or even a community garden! There are so many people in the world who need safer and healthier food to eat, that working on a solution as a community, not only gets your community involved but also works on solving a problem. How about that! If every community across the globe did its part on making a difference, solving the nutrition and hunger problems we have, can you imagine what a world we would have!!
Finally, let’s talk about what foods there are to eat, when everyone is telling you that you can’t eat this and that. First of all, food today is not like it first started out to be. All too often I hear people complaining that their grandparents didn’t have organics to eat and are healthy and fine today. The fact is, that how food was made back in those good old days, is nothing like the fast paced food production plants we have today. There wasn’t a need to worry about industrial fertilizers, killer pesticides, or additives that cause more harm than good. Today’s food is over-processed, fatty, greasy, salty, sugary and highly addictive. That’s right, the fast fatty foods, and convenient and cheaper conventional foods are specifically designed to make you completely addicted to their taste, texture, and smell. We can’t help but crave a sugary treat or salty snack when we’re having a bad day. Put healthy foods up against the conventional foods, and there’s no doubt the unhealthier food choices will always win. Millions upon millions are spent on marketing ads focused not just at you, but even more shocking, marketed directly at your children! And age is not discriminated against! Have you ever noticed those cute little baby bottles and bibs with the Coke and Pepsi logos on them!?!? Magazine ads, tv commercials, and in store sales all work together in a viscous food cycle to get you to want and need those foods! Back to the answer your looking for. What can you eat. Eat a diet that is rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, whole foods, nuts, legumes, and whole grains. Steer clear from the carbonated and sugary drinks, processed foods, fast foods, and of course fried foods!! Contrary to what our evil critics say, we are not trying to convert everyone to vegetarianism or veganism!! What we want is you to replace your unhealthy diets with a diet that will not only detox your body and begin to let it heal, but once it figures out how to function on its own again, help you to feel lighter and so much healthier again. Go ahead and eat meat if you do, but instead of buying the over-processed glued together meat you usually do, buy free-range and organic meat. This is the most amazing tasting meat you will ever eat!! In the course of over-processing and additives, I think most of us have forgotten how a real piece of meat tastes. I just had a friend bite into an free-range hamburger for the first time last month and immediately noticed a huge difference. She said not only was it lighter tasting and not greasy, but the meat actually tasted much better!! Go figure! Meat that is farmed by farmers who love their livestock and take pride in raising grass fed, free roaming animals will always taste better than that other stuff you can grab for a buck off the dollar menu.
Change how you look at food, how you get your food, and how you eat your food. Eat healthier, grow what you can, get fresh air, and be good to everyone around you. You’ll be glad you did!
Many would like ot thik that by defeating Monsanto our Ge problems are solved. I’m sorry my friends to inform you that is not the case. While it is true that Monsanto is the mother of our Bio-tech headaches they are not thr only ones to be after. No friends, there are 6 grand corporations heavily researching and working in this field, Monsanto is just the supreme entity of them all. Here are your big 6 Biotech headaches: BASF, Bayer, Dupont, Dow Chemical Company, Syngenta, and Monsanto. Taking out one, will only allow the others to pick up where the previous left off, and so begins our fight to be GE free. We need to remind ourselves of that with every post that we post, and make sure we let all of the companies know we no longer want to be their guinea pigs, not just Monsanto.

Over and over I see the name calling against those of us who believe not only that we have the right to know what is in our food we eat, but that long term health studies need to be done in order to prove the safeness of these products, all of which may I remind you are made by the very same company responsible for thousands of deaths through their “safe” creation we known as Agent Orange. They call us uneducated, jobless, hippies with nothing better to do than protest everything. But they also say we are against science!! Science teaches us to ask questions, have our doubts, and research til we prove our theories. So how is it that we are against science when we are asking for that which science is all about?! And we’re the uneducated ones?? The monopolization of our food supply by one company simply is unconstitutional. This is not just about gmos, no my friends it’s about something much bigger. It’s about how time after the words and needs of the people are going ignored and made unimportant. It’s about the globalized takeover of our food supply system. It’s about a government and its agencies, which are supposed to represent the people and their needs, turning against us in the name of profit, big business, and production regardless of the cost. My friends we have become a world that has all but forgotten where we live, and came from. We poison our waters, air, and soils, all in the name of better tomorrows, but don’t stop to realize we are taking and taking and not giving. Changing our environments in such horrific ways has negative consequences…So of course we have more natural disasters!! Earth has to compensate for it’s imbalances. Something, somewhere has to give! And then we recover and go back to our daily lives, and change nothing, and the process starts all over again. So if wanting a change, a better and brighter future for my child and his children and their children makes me a nut job, then by god that is what I am!! Call your names, put us down, and try to convince the rapidly growing number of people who want answers and demand proof, that we are all crazy. Just remember that as you sit and spout your words of hate and prejudice, that you are changing nothing…which makes you part of the problem. Trust nothing!! Question everything!! We don’t need nor want your approval! The food Revolution is coming with or without you 🙂
Hippocrates was on to something when he said the famous words: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Sadly in his time, Companies like Monsanto weren’t around for him to have tend with. But his words still have such power and ring so true in the hearts and minds of those who have an understanding of how the natural order of things should be. Call us hippies, call us anti-science freaks, call us whatever you would like, but the fact of the matter is, food that is good for our bodies and our souls, were meant to be planted and harvested naturally in the ground before serving to our families and friends. In no way am I hater of science or healthy progress. We owe so much to the numerous breakthroughs and inventions that science has helped to bring forward. But sacrificing the health and natural chemistry of our soils in the name of profit and higher yields is not only a crime against mother nature, but an irreversible chemical nightmare for future generations of growers and farmers to contend with!
Recently I read a post online stating that if we make them eat nothing they can grab at the grocery store anymore, what in the world will they eat? I have to laugh at such silliness. Have we really forgotten where everything first started? Has our progress and comfort in having someone else be responsible for providing food and goods to our friends and family really clouded the stories and ways of those who lived here before? Somehow we have forgotten that a garden at one time wasn’t a weekend hobby, but a means to help you live, be healthy, and thrive!! There was a time when we ate to taste and savor each bite of food we created, and felt our heart skip beats as each ingredient tickled our tongues. Yes Virginia, there was a time when you picked up an ear of corn and that’s all that it was, a simple and healthy piece of corn. Inside it’s husk were not injected DNA from a bug or flower, fish or other animal, just a simple and wonderfully grown ear of corn. Now, unless its grown in your own garden or labeled as 100% organic, there are just no guarantees. How sad for future generations, as little by little the big bad biochemical companies (yes one of which is the very same who created Agent Orange!) are taking over our fields and lands in the name or progress, science, and solving the world hunger problem! What isn’t of great concern to these companies, or for government agencies in charge of our food supply for that matter, is the blind pot that exists to the consequences of their efforts. The companies who create these fake foods preach over and over that they are safe! They offer up their in-house research, downplaying and discrediting any who oppose the findings. Donating and contributing thousands if not millions to organizations, political parties and government agencies, and think that we won’t sit here and wonder why they need too if their creations are so safe. They harp about cost, and how much re-labeling would cost, but ignore the fact that we as consumers have a right to know what we are feeding not just ourselves but our families as well. If it’s safe, label it!! Instead, they bring out their wallets and spend yet more money fighting to take away our right to know, and now have found ways to bully not just our local stores into carrying their frankenfoods, but have somehow managed to convince our government that it’s ok to threaten other countries who stand up and against what isn’t healthy or good for their people. Go figure!!
And so last Saturday, May 25, 2013, over two million people took to the streets to make sure their voices and feelings rang loud and clear through the ears of all who casually walked or drove by…Chants and songs declaring our desire to no longer be buy or support the foods that are making us sick and keeping us trapped in our unhealthy food cycle, echoed across the globe. A sight and sound that rightly deserved to be an event that will forever be part of history. But even as the masses stood up for what they want and demand, the dark forces of the opposition were at work. For many who thought they could catch this historic event on their local or national news, they were handed a dose if disappointment. The media seemed to have decided that this monumental event wasn’t worthy enough for them to cover…really? Or could have opened wallets and hefty encouragement from donors and protectors of the very companies that “we the people” were taking a stand against had somehow found a way to have their hands in this as well? Clearly our powers are underestimated. Somehow our stores, government, and these dark empires have forgotten that it is our money that ends up in their wallets, and our choices that we make on our own, to buy the products that makes them have that money and power. And as easily as it has come, it can very easily go. Which should scare these seemingly forgetful companies and government entities greatly.
Saturday, May 25th, 2013 marked not just a day of protest, but the start of what is soon to come. A change in the tides of what we accept and put faith in, a change in how and what we feed our families. An educated and passionate public across the globe, who turn to each other and lean on each other is far more powerful than any company will ever be. No my friends, that day was not just a day of peaceful and passionate chants and songs. History was made, but more importantly the beginning of the Food Revolution began. And while they can get the media to not cover protests or write truthful and accurate stories, and while they can ignore what the we the people want and demand…CHANGE IS COMING!!! Change has already begun. This is only the beginning..the beginning of the end of the monopolization and control over our food supply. The people have spoken. It’s time for a change, it’s time for a Food Revolution.
