Seed Bombs!! A brief look into the history to get you inspired!

Seed Bombing is a term used since the 1970’s, which is about the time when the guerrilla gardening movement began. According to research, it was in the 1970’s that a group of garden activists known as the “Green Guerrillas” was founded by NYC artist Liz Christy who threw seed bombs into abandoned lots and wastelands. Christy went on to become the creator and founder of the Bowery Houston Community Garden which is still a heavily active garden today..A garden that has received both local support in addition to local government, to help preserve it as a community growing space. Since then, there have been so many different kinds of seed bomb inventions. These include things like seed balloons, seed condoms, seed-filled christmas ornaments, seed capsules, and even seed paper. The most common technique that most of us guerilla gardeners use today, happens to be the ancient method of using natural materials that were used by Masonobu Fukuoka, who used earth clay and seeds to create his successful balls of seeds. No matter where you live, or what recipe or method you use, one thing is for sure. Seed bomb and seed bombing groups are tripling in popularity and numbers, and as more and more consumers jump on the Seed Bomb wagon, even us here at the Food Revolution truly believe the Biotech Companies and Food industry should be very afraid. With every seed and every chemical-free seed bomb thrown or planted, we are in fact taking back our food supply, one bomb at a time!

Here is our chosen must see video for the day!

Did you know?

Is it really any surprise that the Washington labeling battle lost? Or Prop 37 proposal fell to the same fate in pretty much the same fashion. It’s not just the big bad chemical companies that are to blame for this recent demise folks, the dollars you have been spending every day can carry some of the fault as well. Here’s how:

“Members of the Grocery Manufacturers of America, which was forced to create a political committee to comply with state law, have contributed more than $11 million to No on 522, the campaign opposed to the labeling initiative” (shocking, no?). To break it down even further:

Pepsico ($2.4 million)
Coca-Cola ($1.5 million)
Nestle ($1.5 million)

That’s according to a review of state records. These are the same three companies that also made large contributions to defeat the California labeling initiative last year. That was of course after the big processed food companies joined with the biotech firms and helping to raise $46 million for the opposition.

Still there are others:
General Mills ($869,000)
Conagra ($828,249)

You can add to the list the Campbell’s Soup Company, Kellogg’s Company, Land O’Lakes, Ocean Spray Cranberries, Cargill, Dean Foods and The Hershey Company as well. Yes, every time you spend your hard earned dollars on their products, you contribute to their ability to continue spending large fortunes to make sure labelling doesn’t happen. The thing is, you don’t need labels! I cringed as I watched the amount that either side was spending on labels that people don’t really read right now. And what people do read, they can’t understand. No longer are ingredients simply water, flour, sugar, eggs, etc. If you have to look up ingredients on your smartphone, or online at home to know what you’re eating, it’s not real food and shouldn’t be eaten. The processed food industry is getting richer and richer off making consumers sicker and more overweight. The lies that the government spews out showing reductions in this or that, simply isn’t true. The next time you’re out and about take a good look around you. What do you see? Do you see healthy and energized people, or are most of the adults and children you see in dire need of healthier food and a nutrition intervention? I think you’ll find that things aren’t as healthy and wonderful as what some people try to convince you of. Over 85% of all processed food has at least one or more GE (GMO) ingredients in them! That means that unless verified otherwise, grocery store shelves lined from ceiling to floor with GMOs. Most of the food we eat today isnt real food at all. It concerns me that we are so focused on labels, for food that shouldn’t be consumed in the first place. And by continuing to waste time and money on fighting to label garbage food, we’re continuing to allow the same food to be purchased and generating additional demand. Knowing that just about every single processed food product has one or more GMOs in it, how does it slip the minds of so many that purchasing products that contain GMOs, supports the growth of GE crops!!!

Complaining about such defeats just seems so ridiculous. What should we be doing then? The bottom line is this…real food doesn’t have an extended shelf life. Real food doesn’t have a dozen ingredients in it that you have to look up in order to know what you are eating. We’re so wrapped up in labelling food that needs to be taken off the shelves and replaced with real and whole foods, that we aren’t taking time out to realize that we’re fighting to label the very same foods contributing to the chronic diseases and illnesses, food allergies and weight issues we have today. The answer isnt easy or simple, because it makes us have to take responsibility for our own health and wellness, and for that of our family. The only way we are going to solve this problem is by getting out and getting growing. And with air pollution and the nasty chemicals being sprayed on us, learning how to creatively grow indoors is even better. Until we start growing our own food, going out into our communities and starting community gardens/greenhouses and take the reliance from buying and consuming these fake foods, the cycle will continue and this will be an ongoing battle. I look at the amount of money raised to try and pass the label initiatives and then I look back at how that same money could have been spent on school lunches programs and getting them away from the clutches of Monsanto, or on nutrition programs that are designed to to not only teach people what they should be eating and how to cook without using GMOs or toxic chemicals and additives. Think about it. Labelling continues the GMO cycle. It allows the nutritional oppression that has plagued us for far too long, to remain a burden to our health and wellness, as well as to our pocketbooks as we stay prisoners to the OTC medications and prescription we rely on to get through each day. It just seems like we are wasting so much time and money to label products we need to have gone, when we should be working on the root of the problem.

We here at the Food Revolution support self-reliance, self-sufficiency, and personal responsibility. The time of blaming and crying over spilled milk is over. it’s time to grab those containers if you live in an area that is now in winter mode, educate yourself on aquaponics and hydroponics, relearn how to cook and eat healthier, and get growing. Until we take back the reigns on this stage coach, we will remain conforming GMO supporters. There are so many amazing new grassroots groups and organizations that are popping up all across the world that are willing and able to help you make the change. It’s time to get our bodies back on real and chemical free foods and beverages so that they can begin to detox and function as they should. If you start today, replacing even just one meal a week with a healthy and processed free foods, you are already starting the process. Together we can take back our food supply! Together we can learn how to help and take care of each other! Together we can make a difference. We can do it together!

Food Companies and Monsanto Spend Millions to Defeat Washington GMO Labeling Initiative.

Helping those in need is not an only in warm weather job…

Over the past few months there have been so many amazing grassroots groups and organizations popping up all supporting the grow your own food and feed the hungry movement. So many awesome and wonderful people coming together not because they want to have their face and name plastered on a facebook page, in a newspaper, or blog, but because people helping other people out is how it should be. Many of these heroic groups and people come from pasts that have had them in the very shoes of those in need, that is the fire that is lit under their unselfish and forward moving determination. They, much like us, don’t keep track of the hours of sleep lost, the number of dollars spent out of pocket without hesitation, or how many people thanked us. There are no medals of honor, no world peace prize, no monetary awards. The feelings you feel when you see the smiles, feel the hugs, and hear the thank you’s is worth more than anything in this world.

The need for healthy and chemical free food has never been greater, and every dollar of every day that is spent funding the food industry and chemical companies who are in charge of it, is another day of illness and death that shouldn’t exist. We need people to step out of their getting by lives, and want to do what is right because its right. Because one day,, sooner or later, we may very well find ourselves in that same position if we haven’t already been there before. When I look into the faces of those I am blessed to be able to help get healthier and in a better position to get back on their feet, I don’t see someone who is lesser than me, or asks to be where he/she is. I see a man, woman, and more often than innocent children who have had their lives yanked out from underneath them and just need a solid ground to stand on. These are our fellow brothers and sisters, people with just as much value and purpose in this world as you and me. When we stop looking at them as equals to us, we far too easily turn our backs on them, many only feeling the spirit of giving during the holidays.

Friends and blog followers, this is simply not acceptable. I get that there are many who don’t know where to start or what to even do. I get that there are many of us who live in states and countries that have cold winter months. But hunger, homelessness, and poverty don’t go off to a warm weather place until the cold hard months pass, neither should we. Food banks and soup kitchens are simply failing to provide food with sufficient nutrition on a regular basis, and it shouldn’t have to be their burden anyways. WE have the ability to make a difference and create change. It won’t make you rich and famous, or get you a presidential medal. We already see and know that our government and the companies they are so deeply in bed with no longer have our best interest at heart any more…then again it has been that way for quite some time hasn’t it?! It has to change…

Words mean nothing, we need action!!

In the beginning there was excitement and rants about helping and doing something. We explained what our goals were, what we needed, and how much we need you to help us spread the message and come together. As the weeks have passed, our country and many others have seen additional conflicts and changes. People are suffering and struggling on an even greater level, in even greater numbers. Chemical and additive free foods and clean healthy water are vital to human health and wellness. They are crucial to being healthy and fighting off illness and diseases…My friends, our food supply has been monopolized by the very same company that brought us Agent Orange, and they (along with the other BioMafia corporations) are wiping real food off the shelves menus, leaving you with the genetically modified garbage “fake” foods that are creating new illnesses, causing chronic diseases and illness, and keeping our countries overweight. Our poor are the biggest the victims..they eat whatever they can find, with city after city making it illegal to give them food and even sleep at night. Enough is enough, and the time has come for you to decide who you really are. Are you the kind of person that stands there or walks by and tell yourself its not your problem, my tax dollars take care of that or they deserve t, or are you the person who was so excited to join us and do whatever you can to makea difference and fight back..We are fighters..We are do’ers..we are the strength, fists and power for those who have none..We are the Food Revolution and we call upon you to help us make a difference now!!

Biotech Giants want you!

Recently I stumbled across an article that claimed Monsanto and several of the other biotech corporations want you to ask them questions. While I assure you that this is just another attempt to try and drum up some kind of positive image and support..heading off the to the article for yourself and asking the questions you have certainly can’t hurt. The bottom line is, if your smart and truly care about your future and your families health, you need to do as much research and investigating as you can. The back and forth between the conventional farmers (who use and live by bioseed), and our beloved organics will continue to plague your media channels until one or the other wins out and reigns supreme..Sadly I think the only real winners are the food companies and big businesses bottom line is if your poor which most of us are or are on the brink of eat what you can afford. And if you can only afford to replace some of your foods with organics a day or two a week or worse, even a month, and the rest of your diet is full of the garbage diets westerns thrive on..your not doing yourself any good..until we spread the free food movement..the losers are us the consumers..But please check out the link, ask questions and let us know what if anything you get back!! ūüôā

The time has come…Are you ready to do your part…..It’s time for a Food Revolution..

Over the last several weeks, we have been busy organizing and fine tuning all of our ideas, projects, and resources (though this will be an ongoing process), to make sure that we can pass it all on to you in a way that will provide you with the most success and help you to do the most good. Many of you have been waiting to find out how you can help, how you can start a food revolution in your community/area, and what you can do to help fight back against the Biomafia companies and food industries that are spending millions if not billions to keep you addicted to their toxic and deadly foods, sick with chronic diseases and illnesses, and worse than that..starving out our fellow brothers and sisters who are forced to remain prisoners of rapidly deteriorating low-income communities. Healthy and nurturing food should not be a should not be only for those who can afford to pay the higher cost of organic foods..Healthy and chemical free foods should be a necessity for everyone, and access to those safe and nutrient rich chemical free foods should exist in each and every community, in every community, in every state, and in every country. For the most part, consumers across the globe have been unknowingly ingesting harmful chemicals and toxins because our governments have care more about profit and higher crop yields than human safety..because they refuse to ban cease and desist their continued attack on our health and wellness..we here at the Food Revolution have decided it is time for us to do our part to right the unjust, harmful, and dangerous wrongs that have been done in this world..and while we may not have the savings accounts of millions and billions of dollars in them, what we do have is the social media, skills, knowledge, and the ability to help lead others into doing the same thing..And here, my fellow revolutionaries, is how you can do just that!!! In no specific order:

1.) Build up support and awareness locally by starting your own Food Revolution page for your specific city (or your equivalent!) It is the foundation for people in your area to go to, to find the latest information, news, resources, events, etc. This makes it easier for you to collect the contact information for those who wish to help you in this battle, and stay in touch. Building your army of supporters this way helps you to do more good, spread out jobs and projects, and not carry the burden all on your own! As if helping to feed others, healthy and chemical foods is a burden ūüôā Please make sure that once you create your own page you share your pages link on our page so we can build our united Food Revolution empire

2.) Download our logo (if you need it let us know) and personalize it with your Facebook pages address and any contact information that you want to have on the flyer. This will be a valuable to pass out to people when you are out and about or at organized protests and marches! You can use the logo on websites, blogs, t-shirts, buttons etc..

3.) Research local resources..your local community is the best source of resources for you to use. See if you can get local neighbors, stores, home improvement centers, etc.. to donate tools, time, volunteers, and other supplies that you will need to start and keep your free food gardens growing!

4.) Depending on what city, state, and country you live in, this is where things get tricky. It seems that no matter if your working to do good in your community or not, laws are laws and rules and codes are rules and codes. Check to see what (if any) your local area has in the way of setting up community gardens, converting lawns to free food gardens, etc. By following the rules and making sure that you are not in violation of any of them, is the difference between healthy and chemical free food to share for free with those who need it, and all your hard work being dug up and taken out.

5.) Know your area! In communities/cities that enjoy year round warmth and sunshine, you can pretty much grow just about anything without too much trouble. Areas that have winters and months of cooler temperatures need to make sure that you select vegetables and fruits that can be grown in your soil and temperatures! Plan to plant-based on your season and area.

6.) Get out and talk about what you/we are doing! Talking to people while your out and about and talking about your page, gardens, needs, our mission will get you more volunteers and maybe even more donations!!

7.) Talk to local schools and see if you can’t bring in some of your fresh produce to donate for their school lunches!! Monsanto spends hundreds of thousands of dollars within the united states on providing them money and items for their lunch programs to feed their students. Maybe with some luck we can help them grow or expand a fresh food garden that they can use instead!

8.) Make sure that when you have decided to start your own local revolution, that you let us know so we can add you to our priv ate member group..It is there where we will discuss important projects, project ideas/videos, coordinate special events together, chat, and get help and extra support!!

9.) While our goal is to have our tools and items all donated, there are many times when that is not possible..permits, park rentals for special events, seed/plant purchases, etc may still have to be paid for..this is why I urge you to start an online fundraiser page (i use Fundraz through facebook…yes you will pay a small fee out of each donation) but you will need to set up a paypal account regardless..if there is another fundraiser or donation site you prefer use it! I make jewelry and recycled accessories, and homemade bath and body products to sell on etsy and in a fb store and put the money I earn directly into my paypal account to cover our expenses ūüôā Please remember to shop around and find the cheapest cost to you possible.

10.) Check our page for gardening tips, tricks, and how to’s..

For now this will get you started and get you motivated…time is not on our side, as our governments continue to take take, and what little funding programs do still have coming in, will not be able to carry the load of new individuals and families who are forced into poverty as new weapons and wars continue to be on the priority list. I can’t tell you how many times I have watch in horror, as people fill buses and trucks with cans of gmo infested food to feed the hungry, which contributes to their failing health and deaths..why feed others what you yourself wont eat..And then of course i hear people telling me that the food banks and shelters often wont allow donated fresh produce or organic canned goods because of liability..ugh!! Maybe it’s time for a new free food bank to come into reality?? It is us against a mighty and powerful force, but if we stand together and do not waiver from our mission to get healthy and safe food into the hands of those who need it, we shall begin to take them down and take back the food supply that has been monopolized for too long. Power to the people, it’s time to grow a Revolution and feed the future!! Healthy and safe food should be free for everyone!!

We Know Who You Are!!

On the evening before the massive and historic protest against Monsanto, 71 US senators voted against an amendment to the senate version of the 2013 farm bill that would have guaranteed states the right to enact mandatory GMO labeling laws.  71 senators voted against the 90% of consumers who want to exercise their right to know what is in their foods.  Included in this 71 senators are 20 liberal Democrats and 43 Republicans (the very same who have fought so hard in the past to defend the rights of states!) Yep, it’s true my friends, these elected officials voted against your state’s constitutional right  to protect the health safety and welfare of it’s local businesses and its citizens!!

We here at the Food Revolution feel you have the right to know who stands against health and wellness, and who were elected to represent your best interest and simply are not.  We know you deserve the right to know who has no respect for your health and wellness, food safety, or for food sovereignty.   In addition to listing the names of these individuals, we thought you’d like to read this:

The Corporate Takeover of Local Decision-Making

Arguing against the Sanders Amendment, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), the chair of the Agriculture Committee, said that the amendment ‚Äú . . . would interfere with the FDA‚Äôs science-based process to determine what food labeling is necessary for consumers.‚ÄĚ Stabenow‚Äôs statement shows either her ignorance of, or dismissal of, the existing scientific evidence that GE food has been linked to everything from allergies to kidney failure to cancer.

But Stabenow‚Äôs real argument was one of efficiency: ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs also important to note that around the world now we are seeing genetically modified crops that have the ability to resist crop diseases and improve nutritional content and survive drought conditions in many developing countries. . . We see wonderful work being done by foundations like the Gates Foundation and others, that are using new techniques to be able to feed hungry people.‚ÄĚ

Let‚Äôs forget for a moment that Stabenow took in $739,926 in campaign contributions from Big Ag in 2012. Or that Bill Gates is a Monsanto shareholder. Or that there‚Äôs plenty of evidence refuting the claim that GMO crops can solve world hunger, improve nutrition or survive drought. The focus on efficiency over health and safety, when we‚Äôre talking about our food, should be enough to set off alarm bells. Claiming efficiency, whether it‚Äôs a valid claim or not, as a reason to trample states‚Äô rights to make their own decisions regarding food and agriculture, should have us thinking ‚Äúslippery slope.‚ÄĚ

In their book, Slow Democracy, Susan Clark and Woden Teachout write: ‚Äú What we have now is the McDonald‚Äôs of democracy. It isn‚Äôt necessarily a rapid process, any more than our processed foods ‚Äď with slaughterhouses, processing plants, intercontinental transportation routes, and months in the freezer ‚Äď are actually quick. But it‚Äôs fast in the sense that fast food is fast: It‚Äôs a centralized process based on the premise of efficiency, delivering a simple, easy-to-use product, but one that leaves citizens unnourished and unsatisfied. Like industrial agriculture, this ‚Äėfast democracy‚Äô has encroached on our communities in a silent and invisible way. And Americans, with a deep stake in the quality of these decisions, know we are losing out.‚ÄĚ

Right, remind me exactly who it is that is losing out, when over 90% of the American just want to know what is in their food so they can make better health and diet choices, and so far that percent of people means nothing to the people elected to represent and fight for those same things.  Shameful! We tend to agree with those that say the real losers are those of us who have come to the harsh reality that we have been lied to by the government and food industry for too long.  That it is us who are the losers when when 71 Senators ignore such a large percent of their constituents.  That is us who are the losers when 71 Senators ignore the science that says, at the least, GE food should be adequately tested and labeled and banned.  And it is us who are losing out when  these same 71 Senators are willing to walk all over  the US Constitution that guarantees states‚Äô their right to protect the health and safety of their citizens! Shame on you! And he rest of the world seems to agree with us!

The Food Revolution was created to educate, empower, encourage, inform, and offer support to those who have come to cruel awakening that we are being poisoned through the foods and beverages we have become so reliant on and addicted too.  Tired of being guinea pig, as time after time the BioChem companies are allowed to flood our global food supply with GE crops and gmos with first having to have extensive research and testing being done, or without being held responsible for the environmental, wildlife, or human health and safety that is put at risk without extensive testing and research ever being done.  Here my fellow Food Revolutionaries, is that list of names:

And Monsanto says……

We all are now well aware of the recent discovery of GE wheat growing unintended on a farm in Oregon. ¬†There are so many questions that come from this recent finding, and the answers we’re given leave even more. ¬†So let’s break it down as best we can. ¬†Monsanto stopped its development of genetically modified wheat in 2004. ¬†This happened as a result of growing concerns from American farmers who strongly felt that it would endanger exports to countries that ban these type products. ¬†With me so far? Great! Numerous¬†countries do not accept imports of genetically modified foods. ¬†Since their first days of use, there has been an ongoing battle as to whether GE seeds, which were designed to resist insecticides and herbicides, add nutritional benefits, and improve crop yields to increase the global food supply, could also cause serious health conditions and harm the environment. ¬†As we told you in a previous post, part of the problem millions like us have with GE seeds and gmo foods, is the lack of outside research that would provide everyone with these answers. ¬†If you remember, just a few days ago, we told you why there hasn’t been such research conducted, and why even peer-reviewed journals are now being forced to provide you with articles that Monsanto allows to be published! (Monsanto is notorious for having its thugs run ¬†major damage control when you try to discredit the company, and prove that it has been lying to consumers for far too long!) Because of this monopolization and continuous refusal to allow unbiased and non-Monsanto funded research to prove that their claims has been valid, you have the opposition we have today. ¬†But back on track!¬†The United States exports about half of its wheat crop to other countries. ¬† Since the announcement of the discovery of this genetically modified wheat in Oregon, Japan which is one of the largest export markets for the U.S. wheat growers, ¬†suspended numerous wheat imported shipments. South Korea was quick to follow, and said it would increase its inspections of U.S. wheat imports. ¬†The European Union has asked its 27 nations, to also conduct additional testing. ¬†As Monsanto stocks began to drop, we were still waiting for answers!!¬†Oregon State University researchers get credit for discovering that the mysterious wheat had the genetic modification that Monsanto used in its field testing. ¬†*Gasp* But Monsanto hasn’t done wheat testing in many years!! Where did it come from!?!?!!?Monsanto, as it comes under heavy fire from all sides, swears that when the test fields were cleared in Oregon in 2001, the seed samples were sent to a USDA deep-storage facility in Colorado. ¬†Deep storage?? Monsanto’s research director, Claire Cajacob, claims that the company does keep some samples on hand, so that they can be able to test. The rest of the seed, however, ¬†is destroyed. ¬†Wait the seeds are sent to deep storage, they keep some to run tests on, but the rest are destroyed? Confused yet? We are!!! ¬†Cajacob states:”We’ve been very careful of how seed is stored and where it’s stored.” So now we really have some questions, because that makes no sense whatsoever! Are they storing the seeds in their deep-storage or did they destroy all of those seeds?

Here’s where it really gets our attention! Cajacob also claims that the company conducted follow-ups with any entity that possessed the seed with the so-called Roundup Ready gene and confirmed that they shipped it to Colorado or destroyed it.” What?!?!?!? So several entities that remain un-named for whatever reason they will come up with soon and tell us, have possession of the seeds that we were just told were sitting in deep-storage, and if we hear her words correctly, destroyed? At least now we know that at some point these seeds were shipped to Colorado. ¬†Doing some research, we learned that testing in Oregon ended in 2001, which is just four years before testing ended nationally. Monsanto representatives claim that the average wheat seed only stays viable for one to two years in a harsh climate like Eastern Oregon’s. ¬†Mmhmmm. ¬†So altering the DNA of seed doesn’t give it new traits or qualities that weren’t necessarily intended? Pfft!! It happens!! So here we have this mysterious growth of Monsanto wheat. ¬†This wheat popped up in a rotational field that was supposed to be fallow in 2013. ¬†None of this gives us any answers. ¬†Til now. ¬†Now we get Monsanto’s reaction and statements. ¬†On Wednesday, Monsanto made the claim¬†that the Oregon field where the wheat was found last week, was in fact¬†contaminated with Monsanto’s unapproved GM wheat, but that it was an “isolated” incident, and that it was very ¬†likely either the result of an accident or “sabotage.” ¬†Oh come on!!! Seriously?!?! We’re supposed to believe that while your stories regarding your GE wheat seed are so full of holes and make no sense, that you actually believe someone at some point went out ino a farmers field, planted those seeds, all as a means to disrupt the trade system between Monsanto and other ¬†countries?! Sorry Monsanto, we here at the Food Revolution say BS!!!And it seems that we aren’t the only ones. ¬†On Thursday, scientists warned¬†that the biotech giant’s denial was full of many holes. ¬†Monsanto claims that it has tested 31,200 seed samples in both Oregon and Washington and found no evidence of contamination, and insists that there is no cause for concern in the world market. ¬†BUT….researchers this week argue that Monsanto’s tests are misleading and that the genetically modified gene used, which is¬†not yet approved for use in the U.S., will very likely continue to be found in wheat seeds!!¬†Carol Mallory-Smith, Oregon State Universities weed science professor who tested the initial wheat plants and determined they were the unapproved Monsanto seed said¬†“We don‚Äôt know where in the whole chain it is.‚ÄĚ Unh hu. ¬†She then goes on to add the following: ¬†‚ÄúI don‚Äôt know how Monsanto can declare anything. We obviously had these plants in the field. ¬†You introduce something into the environment, and genes move around in the environment, whether transgenic or not.” ¬†Thank you!! Once these seeds are no longer in the safety of a controlled lab, things just can happen. ¬†And it does, and clearly it did!¬†David Andow, a professor of entomology at the University of Minnesota, said in an¬†interview with¬†Bloomberg¬†that “these claims are misleading,” and “the tests cited by Monsanto this week, which displayed clean wheat in the state of Washington, are shortsighted.” Monsanto fails to be honest yet again and we are to believe that their claim of safety in regards to GE seeds and gmos are safe for human consumption? Not buying it!! Andow also stated in his interview¬†‚ÄúSure they tested it, but that doesn’t mean it‚Äôs all clean, it just means it‚Äôs not so widespread that it could be detected easily.” Now that makes perfect sense!¬†Doug Gurian-Sherman, senior scientist at the Union of Concerned Scientists in Washington, says “This is not the first time Monsanto has been less than forthcoming on the extent of its seed contamination: “In previous cases, such as during the outbreak of herbicide-resistant weeds in recent years, Monsanto has initially played down the risks. The reality is that nobody knows what happened until extensive testing is done.”¬†Shame on you Monsanto!! But wait there’s more!!¬†Bloomberg reported recently¬†that even if Monsanto’s claims about this specific wheat strain were proven true, they (Monsanto) has resumed trials of other and very similar GM wheat seeds. ¬†This of course is according to information which was posted in a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) database. ¬†Monsanto planted 150 acres of GM wheat in Hawaii last year and 300 acres of GM wheat in North Dakota this year. ¬†This, my fellow Food Revolutionists, means the risk of genetic pollution¬†from unapproved Monsanto wheat is even greater than most people are aware of! Unacceptable!! And we here at the Food Revolution, refuse to allow such important information to be kept from making it to your eyes and ears.

Monsanto, you and the other biotech companies continue to put the health and wellness of consumers beneath profit and higher profit yields.  You are the reason we eat, drink, and breathe ways to educate, empower, and inform people across the globe and get them back on track with eating and growing healthier and cleaner foods.  Your lies will soon fall on deaf ears, as an informed public is your worst nightmare.

Questions and Answers!

My inbox lately has been full of concerned people wanting to know why there’s so much focus on Monsanto and not on helping people to make better and healthier choices. ¬†I’ve asked the same question for quite some time now. ¬†Monsanto is just one of the problems we have in the Biochemical GE crop world. ¬†And as much as I’d love to sit and argue with those who say if we take down Monsanto the rest will give in, that’s just one senile thought I cannot support. ¬†Monsanto is a problem not just to our global food supply, but to our environment, animals and wildlife as well. ¬†The photos and stories about species of butterflies on the verge of extinction, and let’s not forget our precious bees! But as we sign those petitions, protest the companies that carry GE products, and take to the streets in peaceful marches against this one monster entity…we end up going home, turning off our electronic devices, and slip back into our lives. ¬†If you already grow your own food, shop locally and support organic and local farmers, then you have nothing to worry about. ¬†But there are far too many individuals aren’t to that point yet, and are looking for the information, resources, suggestions and ideas on how to get to that point. ¬†We’re focusing so much on one piece of the puzzle, that we’re failing to help fix the problem in the first place. ¬†I’ve already posted in a previous post, that Monsanto is just one of many Bio headaches that we have to deal with in this world, so I won’t bore you again with that story. ¬†My email box, however, has reminded me why I chose to do what I do with my life, and how much work we really have to do if we want to change things. ¬†The Food Revolution stands for exactly that…change. ¬†So we are going to stay focused on providing our readers, followers, and supporters with the tools, resources, information, and ideas that will help them to make the change in their lives.

The questions that need to be answered is this: ¬†How do I get my family eating healthier, we’re so used to the foods we eat now? How can my family make a difference? How can I get my community involved? These are questions that should be our greatest focus, after all, it is consumer buying habits and money that gives the organizations and companies like Monsanto, the fortunes that are used to buy off special interest groups, politicians, etc. ¬†Think about, what good are you doing to protest Gmos when you go to the grocery store on payday and buy food and beverages that contain gmos!? The other question I get asked is: what exactly are we left to eat when you take everything else away? So on this dreary Sunday afternoon, I’m going to try and give you some answers to each question. ¬†It’s time for a Food Revolution Q & A session!

1.)¬†¬†How do I get my family eating healthier, we’re so used to the foods we eat now?¬† Answer: Every little thing we do to improve our diets, homes, lives, communities, etc makes a huge difference. ¬†I always tell people I speak to, to start with little changes. ¬†As creatures of habit, we find change difficult. ¬†Especially when it comes to food. ¬†Food manufacturers intentionally make their processed foods addictive on purpose. ¬†They know we’re driven by our taste buds, and those sugary, salty, and fried foods ¬†pull us in and wrap us in a blanket of unhealthy comfort. ¬†For many, when we try to step away from conventional and over-processed foods, we find ourselves running right back to them. ¬†Score!! For the food manufacturers that is. ¬†The cost of these foods, the way they are displayed in your stores, and the millions spent on marketing these products to you and your children are all part of the food game. ¬†You, of course, are the playing piece. ¬†My family found it easiest to change out one meal each week with a healthier version or brand new healthy dish. ¬†The best way to make sure that your fruits and vegetables are chemical free, is to grow them yourself. ¬†If that’s just not an option, then shopping your local farmers market, buying local produce (talk to your local farmers and ask questions about their growing practices!), and sticking to 100% Certified Organic is the way to go. ¬†Adding a bigger percentage of fresh vegetables and fruits to the diet of you and your family, is the most important thing. ¬†For low income families, that gets more difficult, and with the number of us falling into that category rapidly growing, sometimes buying the more expensive produce and foods isn’t an option, no matter how hard we try. ¬†This is where community gardens are and could be such an asset. ¬†For communities that don’t have them yet, maybe now is the time to see if you can rally some troops together and start one!! Another thing to remember is moderation. ¬†Even eating too much of a good thing isn’t healthy, something that many of us don’t realize. ¬†Increase your water intake, eliminate carbonated and sugary beverages, learn how to read labels properly, and above all get up and move!! Spend time in the fresh air, and laugh even if for no reason other than to laugh ūüôā

2.) ¬†How can my family make a difference? Answer: All of us on this earth can make an amazing difference, in so many ways! Learn as much you can about gmo’s, start and participate in seed exchanges, learn how to garden if you don’t yet have one, start a community garden, share with your friends and neighbors what you learn and even share extra vegetables. ¬†By teaching others what you know your helping more than you know. ¬†Write your local, state, and federal representatives and tell them you want safer and cleaner food production practices, subsidies to be given to organic farmers, tighter restrictions on additives and labeling on the food products being marketed, and that you want to know whats in your food! Participate in protests, join online and offline groups and organizations dedicated to supporting organics, and fighting the companies poisoning our food, water, and environments. Every time you plant a seed, buy organic, and share what you learn you are working on making a big difference.

3.) How can I get my community involved? Answer: Get out and talk to people, go to town meetings, special events, pass out flyers and brochures, talk to friends and neighbors.  Start up a seed exchange program, or even a community garden! There are so many people in the world who need safer and healthier food to eat, that working on a solution as a community, not only gets your community involved but also works on solving a problem.  How about that! If every community across the globe did its part on making a difference, solving the nutrition and hunger problems we have, can you imagine what a world we would have!!

Finally, let’s talk about what foods there are to eat, when everyone is telling you that you can’t eat this and that. ¬†First of all, food today is not like it first started out to be. ¬†All too often I hear people complaining that their grandparents didn’t have organics to eat and are healthy and fine today. ¬†The fact is, that how food was made back in those good old days, is nothing like the fast paced food production plants we have today. ¬†There wasn’t a ¬†need to worry about ¬†industrial fertilizers, killer pesticides, or additives that cause more harm than good. ¬†Today’s food is over-processed, fatty, greasy, salty, sugary and highly addictive. ¬†That’s right, the fast fatty foods, and convenient and cheaper conventional foods are specifically designed to make you completely addicted to their taste, texture, and smell. ¬†We can’t help but crave a sugary treat or salty snack when we’re having a bad day. ¬†Put healthy foods up against the conventional foods, and there’s no doubt the unhealthier food choices will always win. ¬†Millions upon millions are spent on marketing ads focused not just at you, but even more shocking, marketed directly at your children! And age is not discriminated against! Have you ever noticed those cute little baby bottles and bibs with the Coke and Pepsi logos on them!?!? Magazine ads, tv commercials, and in store sales all work together in a viscous food cycle to get you to want and need those foods! Back to the answer your looking for. ¬†What can you eat. ¬†Eat a diet that is rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, whole foods, nuts, legumes, and whole grains. ¬†Steer clear from the carbonated and sugary drinks, processed foods, fast foods, and of course fried foods!! Contrary to what our evil critics say, we are not trying to convert everyone to vegetarianism or veganism!! What we want is you to replace your unhealthy diets with a diet that will not only detox your body and begin to let it heal, but once it figures out how to function on its own again, help you to feel lighter and so much healthier again. ¬†Go ahead and eat meat if you do, but instead of buying the over-processed glued together meat you usually do, buy free-range and organic meat. ¬†This is the most amazing tasting meat you will ever eat!! In the course of over-processing and additives, I think most of us have forgotten how a real piece of meat tastes. ¬†I just had a friend bite into an free-range hamburger for the first time last month and immediately noticed a huge difference. ¬†She said not only was it lighter tasting and not greasy, but the meat actually tasted much better!! Go figure! Meat that is farmed by farmers who love their livestock and take pride in raising grass fed, free roaming animals will always taste better than that other stuff you can grab for a buck off the dollar menu.

Change how you look at food, how you get your food, and how you eat your food. ¬†Eat healthier, grow what you can, get fresh air, and be good to everyone around you. ¬†You’ll be glad you did!

Monsanto is the mother of our big 6 Bio-headaches!!

Many would like ot thik that by defeating Monsanto our Ge problems are solved. ¬†I’m sorry my friends to inform you that is not the case. ¬†While it is true that Monsanto is the mother of our Bio-tech headaches they are not thr only ones to be after. ¬†No friends, there are 6 grand corporations heavily researching and working in this field, Monsanto is just the supreme entity of them all. ¬†Here are your big 6 Biotech headaches:¬†BASF, Bayer, Dupont, Dow Chemical Company, Syngenta, and Monsanto. ¬†Taking out one, will only allow the others to pick up where the previous left off, and so begins our fight to be GE free. ¬†We need to remind ourselves of that with every post that we post, and make sure we let all of the companies know we no longer want to be their guinea pigs, not just Monsanto.
